So the Holidays are finally upon us, and sneaking away into the past and planning for the next year is at our toes.
We used a tree from Jake's Mimi and gathered decorations from Madre.
We have a bit of a tradition of making pizzas on Christmas Eve. The December evening that Jake proposed we made pizzas. Seems appropriate since I met him at a local pizza restaurant in which he worked.
We usually get a strange ingredient to add to the mix....this year we used venison. We have countless deer on the ranch this year and Jake's cousin has perfected his venison smoking skills. He offered to season some in Italian seasoning and use it as a topper.
Jess and Casey Oliver came early to make the dough and prepare the toppings. This year we were able to continue this tradition in our new house!!!! I am so happy to fill it with such festivities.
The supplies were out and ready to be transformed into tasty pies!
The family made their way over and it was time to toss some dough....
Jake is a professional dough tosser, due to his many years of experience!!!
The first pie was tossed in and the madness began.
Once one was finished it was time to put in another. We tossed dough and toppings and created many master pieces......pie making (that of the pizza variety) is a bit of a performance.......
Casey Oliver had his hand in the dough toss. He too was a professional pie tosser.
Venison pizza was amazing......probably one of our best ones on record.
And there it is.... an image I had been envisioning throughout the house build.....family around the table, surely discussing the ways of the world....and the number of drinks their hostess must have had! All the while enjoying a tasty meal.
The guys were very proud of their pies....rightly so.
I was a proud pie maker as well!!!!!
The final pie was ready to go in....however, all of our bellies were full. We were sure that a pizza hangover would be awaiting us all on Christmas morning!
Oh, my heart is full. Having everyone over cooking, drinking and conversing!!!! We had such a great night.....many more to come.....
OOOOO Christmas morning finally arrived. Our stomachs still aching from the pizza.....we made the brisk walk to our neighbor's (the Padres' house)..... Santa, Kris Kringle, The Krampus, all left a little something while we dreamt of sweets...
After opening gifts and devouring the chocolates in our stockings it was time for another sort of pie.....egg pie....my reason for getting up every Christmas morning since I met Jake!!!!!
Of course you can't have Christmas without egg pie, and you can't have egg pie without some bubbly and OJ!
Each year it seems to be made a bit differently, but always tastes amazing! This year it included hash browns, bacon bits, a variety of peppers and of course egg!!!! Have a slice with salsa and your mimosa and your holiday will be complete!.....oh and with family :)
Once our bellies were full, once again, it was time to head back to our house for a nap. We have had several Christmas celebrations in the past few weeks.....since Thanksgiving I think I have had more treats, snacks, cheese and beverage then I have all year.....needless to say a cleanse is in my near future!!!!!! I know that I have truly been grateful for all the holiday festivities and am beyond words when thinking that some of those festivities took place at our house. So here is a small cheers to you and yours during this holiday season. I am unsure of what the next holidays will bring, but I know that the first ones in our house has been great. For the rest of the break I plan on detoxing, catching up on reading, watching documentaries, do some odds and ins around the house and of course relax with family and friends!!!!!!!
