And so we go

The fingers that are typing up this update come attached to a heavy heart. The past few weeks the counties surrounding mine have been effected by terrible storms involving tornadoes.  To see the damage that has been done and having had come this far on our own build puts it all in a new perspective. There is much hard work to come to rebuild homes. There is something to be said about Texans in such a situation. We have a unique way of getting knocked down then standing straight up dust off our clothes and get to work. My thoughts are with those whom have been hit. Lives have been lost much too abruptly. To my knowledge Salvation Army, American Red Cross and many more organizations have been working around the clock to help. We must remember to give often to these organizations in preparation for times like these. We must not forget about our faithful first responders either. As a child of the fire department I understand the hard work and dedication of the firefighters and law enforcement that respond to disastrous situations. I am beyond grateful for their position in the community. They will always go toward what everyone else is running from.

With that said, walking to my house these few weeks to get started on the various  projects to be a step further in the build I did so with a humble heart. I am so lucky to be able to build and create a home, but I also know that this opportunity can be swept away if nature feels it needs to be. All we can do is work hard and look forward to better times.

An update on our progress......

We also put up the rest of the doors. Here is the most important one to Sprout...and Beans.....this goes between the garage and the house and allows the pups to go in and out freely.

We put up the strips that cover the nails in the soffit.....that's right more soffit work, I am sick of the soffit but agree that the strips make it look much better :)

Finished out the ceiling on the front porch. This turned very rustic. I never have considered myself 'rustic' but I really love the way this turned out.

Behind the scenes of a sink. This is the sink going in the master. After purchasing a spout and a sink twice we discovered that the Kohler sink had 1/4 in larger hole than the diagram stated. So, our faucet did not fit but we already had a hole in the counter to fit the sink. So, we had to purchase another faucet. A Kohler faucet. It is not the one that we fell in love with, but it will clean our hands all the same. :)

What else have we been doing?? Well, after many hours of thinking and adding and subtracting, we finally committed to flooring. Once Jake got started it was hard to get him to stop......

I apologize for the not so clear photo, this was put in after a very long day and it was a bit late........I am overwhelmed with joy to even be typing these words, but the ovens are in. The first thing that will be cooked will be a Boston Cream pie promised to Cobbler for his birthday two months ago, and then a spicy apple pie promised to my cabinet maker..........sooooooo excited!!!!

In between counter installation and flooring, I had to make a quick trip to Colorado to celebrate a life lived. I, for the first time ever, missed my original flight and had to catch one to Santa Fe, NM. The smallest airport I have ever been in. On the way back I was stuck there for a few hours due to weather. Thankfully the others flying and the people that man the airport were super friendly.

Since I missed my original flight I got to have a little road trip with GPat. Whom so graciously drove three hours to pick me up and then took me back to the airport two days later. I am so grateful for my grandmother. It turns out I needed a few hours of GPat time.

This weekend we were also able to catch up with a few friends for a Rangers game and a 5k involving zombies. (Excuse the not so lovely locks, humidity and my new bangs do not mix very well :)) We had such a great time. I am really looking forward to the end of this project to be able to hang with our buddies.     We are so close to the end of this project. I am looking forward to so many things, but am grateful for this opportunity! Until next time.....
