One Foot In Front Of The Other

Again slacking in the blog situation. The past few weeks have been very interesting. I personally have been tested more than ever before. For the past 18 months we have done nothing more then working our 9to5s and then working on the house. We have had the occasional dinner with friends and quick visits with family (not to mention the ski trip). I really feel that we have missed so many things though. Not having the freedom to make plans on the fly with friends, or having to say no to invitations has really gotten old. Being without such freedoms has made me truly grateful for such things. I am so ready to sit on the couch and be surrounded by family and friends. I am so ready to grab a bite and not feel guilty for not working on the house. To be honest I am exhausted. On Sunday mornings I have found myself attempting to catch just a few more minutes of shut eye. While lying there I rest with the morning sun sizzling across my face I wonder what it is going to be like when I am waking up in our house.  So, check out how we have gotten just a bit closer to that Sunday morning.......

We have been working on the counter tops. We decided to prep and pour the master bath and jack and jill bath. We have done hours of research, watched videos and ran a few test runs. We went with a specific type of concrete for counter tops made by quickcrete. We went with a white mix. We purchased an edging from Concrete Counter Top Solutions to pour the concrete in place. (Right on top of the cabinets....yes it's cringing). We placed backer board, concrete board, on top of the counters, and then the edging.

We mixed up our  batches, batches we thought had the perfect amount of water and mix ratio....more of that later.... We packed the cement into the bottom, smoothed it out and placed wire mesh in the middle for structure.

We had high hopes!!!! This is the master, once it set up it really was not white, and the wire bled through the concrete......in the end did not turn how we planned...

After I had to practically pry the sledge hammer out of Jacob's hand we smoothed over the counter tops with a putty mix. I then painted the jack and jill counter and according to some unbiased judges it looks pretty good......So crisis fix is on the horizon and will show some pictures of the end product once  it perfected.......two words....Hot      Mess!!!!!!

Unedited photo of the cook top area!!!!!! Did I mention how much I love these cabinets??????? We did run into one issue the area behind the drawer was cramped due to the gas line. We replaced it with an elbow and now they close just fine.

We cut the holes for the soffit vents.....34 of those things. This will allow air to flow from the attic area out to prevent mold.

Entertaining trip to the quickcrete plant. We ordered the concrete through Lowe's and were able to pick it up. These guys drive like mad men in their forklifts honking and focused only on their order.

TaDa!!!!!! This is the dinning room table!!!!!!!!!!! Built by my PaPaul!!!!! I do not have enough words to express how much I LOVE this table! My Grandfather did such a great job. Oh the conversations to be had around this table!!!....And I got to get a sneak peek of the beautiful painting Megatron has done for us that will go over the top of the dining table.......so excited!!!!   A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to stay the night with my grandparents and catch up with family I have not seen in years (and see the table). I am so so so grateful for all of the support from friends and family throughout this project. I have had a few down days recently but they have been balanced out by the random texts, e-mails, words of encouragement and bear hugs!!!!! I have a countless amount of pastries to make for everyone around us!!!!!!    More to come :)
